Soil Science Training at Shippensburg University

Society of Women Environmental Professionals Capital Chapter board is pleased to share the following information sent to us by a fellow SWEP Member, Dr. Claire Jantz:

The Center for Land Use and Sustainability at Shippensburg University is partnering with SoilHub to offer training in soil science for environmental professionals. Registration closes soon!

On Tuesday November 1, Navigating the Web Soil Survey will be offered. In this digital age, there is a wealth of information available at our finger tips. The NRCS Web Soil Survey (WSS) is certainly a powerful online tool, however, like any tool it takes guidance and practice to understand how to use it. http://www.soilhub.com/product/navigating-the-web-soil-survey/

On Tuesday November 15, Fundamental Soil Science will be offered. In this full-day class, students will learn the fundamental knowledge necessary to describe soil physical properties to make interpretations for stormwater BMP suitability, on-lot septic systems placement, hydric soil determinations, and other environmental site assessment needs. During the classroom portion of the course, students will learn principles of soil science through discussion and hands-on activities which provide practical applications to the lesson material. Students will also spend time in the field in a soil test pit conducting real-world observations of soil physical properties. http://www.soilhub.com/product/fundamental-soil-science/
